It was shaping up to be one of the moments grandparents live for. My grandchildren had heard that their father was getting a flat-screen television, and they were beside themselves, so excited that they couldn't hold still—because it would come in a cardboard carton that they could play with. A little too perfect, but in my smugness and hubris I never heard nemesis coming, and certainly not in the person of SpongeBob SquarePants. SpongeBob and Patrick got a television, threw it away, and used the box and their imaginations to confound Squidward. The children had just seen the episode. I had to laugh.
